In a maiden briefing at the National Information Centre , the director of defence information, Major General Chris Olukolade said that Abubakar Shekau is not the real name of the leader of the sect, but only a title. There were indications yesterday that the 230 female students abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from the Government Girls’ Secondary School, GGSS, Chibok, Borno State, have be en sited at the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, by the Special Forces of the United States Marines. The girls who were abducted on April 14, were part of the 250 students boarded at the school for the West African School Certificate, WASC/ Senior Secondary School Certificate, SSSC, examinations, triggering world-wide condemnations. This was even as more US military officials arrived Nigeria yesterday to join local officials in the search for nearly 300 school girls taken captives by the Islamist extremist group, Boko Haram, the US Secretary of State John Kerry, and the defence department, Pentagon, said. Its been barely three weeks since school girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok were abducted by members of Boko Haram, there has been a scare of another case of school students kidnapped from their school. According to reports,some school children were kidnapped around 1 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Baruwa Primary school, Itire-Ijeshatedo, Surulere. There was pandemonium as news of a supposed kidnap got to parents and guardians who rushed to the school to pick up their children. Mrs. Mayowa Ikuforiji, the wife of the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, says she is set to adopt an abandoned child at the Little Saints Orphanage in Lagos. She told newsmen of her plan on Friday at the Little Saints Orphanage at Akowonjo, Shasha, in Lagos, saying the gesture was to give a fulfilling life to the child. “It is a social service which requires collective responsibility, the information of the abandoned child came to me through a phone call. “I have to do everything to help the innocent baby achieve his purpose in life,” she said. Ikuforiji said the mother of the baby might have abandoned him due to financial problems. According to her, the baby could have come as a result of a young girl having an unwanted pregnancy. “If such occurrence comes up, we should all rise to the challenge and let those involved in such acts realise that it is a taboo to abandon a baby, no matter the circumstances,” she said. Members of civil society groups in Abuja protest the abduction of the Chibok school girls … N igerian Islamists who kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls are seeking a prisoner swap for jailed comrades, The Daily Telegraph has been told. Shehu Sani , who has previously brokered face-to-face peace talks with Boko Haram, said he believed that the video in which its leader threatened to sell the girls as “slaves” was proof that it planned to use them as bargaining chips rather than kill them. The video released earlier this week showed Abubakar Shekau gloating that he would sell the captives “in the market” to anyone wishing to take them as wives. Soilders have arrested a young Boko Haram member and one elderly one .The arrest was made by the U.S Soldiers on internal security operation. According to The Sun,The boy, according to the Director, Defence In­formation, was arrested during a cordon-and-search operation at Any­ibe in Logo Local Gov­ernment Area of Benue State. Two rifles, three locally fabricated pistols and 61 rounds of special ammunition were said to have been recovered from the teenager during the operation.The arrested gang member was also said to be undergoing interrogation in custody.

Some of the lucky girls who escaped when terrorists attacked their school in Chibok, Borno state, were visited by the wife of the Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima. A 78-year-old man of Holmes County, died on Wednesday night, but he is alive today and his family said it’s really a miracle. Walter Williams, also known as Snowball Williams, was pronounced dead by the county coroner Dexter Howard. “They checked him and he was officially pronounced dead. They placed him in a plastic bag, zipped him up and they put him in a hearse,” Eddie Hester, a nephew of Williams said. After he was taken to the funeral home, his leg began to move. An employee at the funeral home immediately contacted a family member. When Williams’ family members arrived they were shocked that the old man was still alive. Williams was taken back to the hospital. The coroner could offer no medical explanation to the bizarre event, saying that it is just a miracle. See the video on you-tube

Gay Rights Activist, Bisi Alimi marked his 10th year anniversary of living with HIV on Wednesday. Bisi was the first Nigerian who came out of the closet to openly declare his sexuality on television in 2004 – he was on Funmi Iyanda’s New Dawn talk show on the Nigerian Television Authority where he publicly admitted he was gay and asked for acceptance from the public. That same year, Bisi was diagnosed of HIV and expelled from University of Lagos. While marking the 10th year of living with the virus, Bisi wrote that he still believes in Nigeria despite the hatred and rejection he had received. Read his tweets below:

A man’s penis was hacked off by a vigilante group, after suspecting him of raping a three year old girl. Francisco de Souza de Castro, 66, was targeted in a brutal revenge attack in Severinia, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Three of his fingers were also sliced off by the vigilantes. Doctors unsuccessfully tried to re-attach his phallus after he was rushed to Santa Casa de Misericordia Hospital, in nearby Barretos. Re-grafting his fingers onto his hands was also unsuccessful. Estadao reports that Castro allegedly raped the infant, on the rural ranch where he worked. Her mother reportedly spotted signs of the alleged attack when her daughter returned home later that night. It’s unclear who carried out the attack on Castro but Police chief Marcelo Pupo revealed that Castro had been “conscious” while he was attacked. Boko Haram has struck again! The single lane bridge linking Borno State, Nigeria and Cameroon has been reportedly bombed by Boko Haram, Thursday night, killing at least 30 people. Residents say the only option left for people traveling to and from Gamboru, is to go into Banki near Bama local government area of Borno into Cameroon and later enter Gamboru from another Cameroonian village. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro The Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has called on Nigerians to refrain from spreading false information capable of further inciting terror. According to him, a video being circulated on the social media of one of the missing Chibok girls allegedly being stoned to death is as old as 2013 and considering the facts around the said video, much older. While the act is as despicable as it is condemnable, a 2008 BBC report shows that it happened in Somalia. Moments like these require the collaboration and focus of all citizens to our common goal – bringing an end to terror in Nigeria. The Minister enjoins all Nigerian citizens to support our soldiers with valuable information that will help rescue the girls and more importantly, win the war against terror.

Former Niger Delta militant, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo has said that all news relating to the abduction of over 200 girls from Chibok in Borno is a scam.
