Pregnant mother-of-one commits suicide over infidelity in Edo

A middle-aged woman from  Igarra community in Akoko Edo local government area of Edo has reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope tied to the ceiling fan in their family apartment.
 Ometere Aduga,  mother of one, whose husband does not reside in the state, was said to be two months pregnant, for a yet to be identified person.
A reason some suggested  could be responsible for the act, owing to the possible case of infidelity.

According to an eye witness the deceased had visited a private hospital in the town, few days earlier, and had confided in the hospital personnel of her intention to commit suicide because of the reported pregnancy.
Reports said the deceased was counseled against such action and was given an appointment to report back on Monday for further medical examination and more counseling.

But on the said day (Monday), she was said to have dropped her son with a neighbor, with the excuse that she was going to have her bath but after waiting endlessly the neighbour went to their apartment only for her to see her completely naked body dangling from a rope tied to the ceiling fan.
A source close to the family, who did not want his name in print said, “Ometere was a very brilliant girl who was a 300 level medical student at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, but she was advised to withdraw due to health reasons. She later recovered and got to married but her husband is not from here and she has been staying with her parents. One cannot really say what could have led to her commit suicide, whether it was as a result of the pregnancy, which is believed may not be her husband’s or a relapse of her mental illness.”
