Have you ever been through a situation that seems like God is no more on your side? The feeling of helplessness putting doubt in your mind that puffs out the little faith left in you. You are not alone in this situation. I have walked that part also at one point or the other in my life. The Good News is that God is never late. He is always on time to get us out of that messy situation. Not only that, He also goes the extra mile to make us laugh rather than smile. The way of the Lord is so so amazing and I just cannot fathom it. As a matter of fact, God is the most Romantic of all that is in existence yesterday, today and afterwards. What am I talking about? Exodus chapter 1 to 3 got me elated. The Isrealites probably felt hopeless and helpless in their situation. Asides the fact that they were enslaved, they also cannot freely have children. This is mysterious! One of the top attractions at Karachi Zoo in Pakistan is ‘Mumtaz Begum Africa Wali’ – a mythical half-fox, half-woman chimera. With the body of a fox and the head of a woman, this bizarre creature manages to delight visitors more than any other animal in the zoo. The woman wears heavy make up with bright lipstick, and small children in the crowd are immediately captivated by her presence. Then she begins her story: “I was born like this in Africa 35 years ago, and I live on cake, j...
Exposed to the air by the surgeon’s knife, the baby’s tiny heart beats vigorously. The anaesthetist adjusts a dial and consultant cardiac surgeon Conal Austin cuts the aorta so he can put ten-day-old Finn Jones onto a heart-lung bypass machine. ‘No going back now,’ he says drily. We’re 50 minutes into a five-and-a-half-hour marathon ‘cardiac switch’ operation to replumb baby Finn’s circulatory system. Finn was born with his body working as two disconnected circuits: ‘blue’ blood, containing very little oxygen, was pumped around his body but could not reach his lungs to be reoxygenated, while brilliant red, oxygen-rich blood flowed into and out of his lungs with no way of reaching any other organs. Until a few decades ago, infants born with this condition were known as ‘blue babies’ because of the faint purplish tinge to their skin. They would generally survive until the t...
