Another bomb blast at about 9pm today, May
24, 2014 rocked the city of Jos, capital of Plateau State. This follows a
twin car bombing that occurred in the heart of the town this week
killing 181 people.
Residents of Jos who spoke with The Trent say
this latest blast occurred at a football viewing centre at Agwan
Rukubu, close to the University of Jos. Patrons of the centre were
watching the European Champions League final between Real Madrid and
Atletico Madrid when the bomb went off.
The sound of the explosion was heard in Jos South LGA, about 25 kilometres away from the scene, eye witnesses say.
According to Daily Trust, window pane of
houses near the scene of the blast shattered as a result of the impact
of the blast. Eye-witnesses report that blast killed the bomber before
he got to the viewing centre.
The spokesperson of the Police State Command
of the Nigeria Police, Felicia Ali, confirmed the incident but said
details were still sketchy.
Reports say emergency responders were being
cautious of approaching the scene of the latest explosion for fear that
another bomb might be planted nearby.
It is unclear if there are casualties at this time.
