SARS kills three, arrests ex- convict in Ogun
Ogun State Police Command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad has killed three
robbers and arrested two others in separate operations at Toll Gate and
along the Abeokuta/Sagamu Expressway. One of the arrested robbers is
said to be an ex-convict.
A statement by the Ogun State Police
Public Relations Officer DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said, “Inspector Adeyemi
Akeem led a team of SARS operatives last Friday to burst a gang of armed
robbers that specialised in snatching cars, at Toll Gate Ota, Ogun
State, around 6pm. Two of the robbers were killed while one identified
as Yusuf Ahmed was arrested.
“The robbers had snatched one Benz ML SUV
marked Reg No LND 779 AQ from the owner at Dalemo area of Otta on
Thursday 24th April around 8pm;and the team had since then put them
under surveillance, after a tip-off, before the arrest.”
The syndicate said to have been on the
wanted list of the command for the past one year, has allegedly been
involved in many robberies within and outside Ogun State.
An ex-convict, Ahmed, 21, a native of
Ibadan and an alumnus of the Command Secondary School Ibadan, is said to
have served time at the Ikoyi Prison,Lagos, for a similar offence.
The statement also added that the SARS
team had encountered another syndicate that specialised in Highway
robberies in the state and beyond on Saturday along the Abeokuta/Sagamu
Expressway around 3.45pm. The syndicate was said to be headed towards
Abeokuta to rob a business man of N30m.
It said, “During the encounter, one of
the robbers was fired and later died while two of them who were fatally
injured were arrested with one pump action gun, three locally made guns
and 30 rounds of various ammunition.
“One of the suspects is Obong Imeh, 37, a
native of Cross Rivers State, resides at Ikenne Remo, Ogun State. He is
a father of three and has confessed to being involved in armed robbery
operations for years.
“Using spiritual means, he is said to
disappear whenever he encountered security operatives; he could only be
arrested when his blood touches the ground. Imeh was eventually arrested
when he was shot by the SARS operatives and drops of his blood fell to
the ground.”
The second suspect, Sarumi Jide, 37, a
father of two and a native of Kwara State is said to be the armourer of
the group. He reportedly confessed that the arms were being sourced from
the cult boys in Ijebu Ode whenever they had operations.
Adejobi said, “The Commissioner of Police
Ogun state, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye has ordered SARS to carry out thorough
investigation on the two cases and fish out other members of the
syndicates and their accomplices.
“He has assured the general public of
bringing the suspects to book so as to serve as deterrent to others in
the state and Nigeria at large.
